Why is it important to keep the skin hydrated? Well, our skin must be kept adequately hydrated in order for it to protect our bodies from UV radiation and toxic agents. Hydrated skin is skin that remains plump and resilient, allowing our protective barrier to remain intact. This is due in part to an ingredient in our skin called Hyaluronic Acid; this is what holds the water in our skin.

Drink Plenty of Water

This is a bit of an obvious one, but keeping hydrated means getting enough water so that your body can function efficiently. The recommended amount varies, but 1-2 litres of water a day should be enough to keep you hydrated. When exercising you will need to drink more water to replenish what you lose when sweating.

Eat the Right Foods

There are also foods that help to keep your skin hydrated. Our skin has a natural barrier to help retain moisture, that barrier contains Omega-3 fatty acids. Salmon, flax seeds, and walnuts are rich in Omega-3, including these foods in your diet will boost your Omega-3 intake and help moisturize your skin.

Spinach is also a food that is full of vitamins, the main one here in order to replenish the skin is Vitamin A, a skin-strengthening vitamin.

Berries of all varieties not only contain juice to keep you hydrated, but also have vitamins and antioxidants to protect and strengthen your skin.
